Sphero Coding Bots
Whether learners are just getting started with programming and inventing or looking to grow their engineering and computational thinking skills, the Sphero Coding Bots are the answer! You can either check out a Sphero Mini to code at home or visit the Library and use a Sphero Bolt in the Children's Area.
How to check out a Sphero Bolt to use in the Library
Sphero Bolts can only be used in the library on our dedicated coding table. They can be checked out for one hour with your Library card. Talk to someone at the desk in the Children's Area to check their availability and get started!
How to borrow a Sphero Mini to use at home
Sphero Minis are available to check out in person or from our catalogue, so members can place a hold and pick them up when notified.

Getting Started at Home with a Sphero Mini
You can download two apps for the Sphero Mini: Sphero Edu and Sphero Play. Sphero Edu offers three different coding options for the Mini - Draw, Block, and Text - that move from beginner to advanced coding skills, while Sphero Play provides the option to drive and play games while learning STEAM skills.
Download the Sphero Edu app from the App Store or the Google Play Store.
Download Sphero Play from the App Store or the Google Play Store
- Open the Sphero Edu or Sphero Play and tap Connect Robot
- Select Sphero Mini from the list of robot types
- Hold your robot next to the device and select it to connect
- Once your robot is connected, you will be ready to start exploring!
To charge the Sphero Mini, gently squeeze the shell seam until it pops open, then plug the charging cord into the robot.
